Yelp Launches Voice AI to Check Restaurant Wait Times and Expands Business AI Tools
Yelp rolls out a consumer‑facing voice agent that calls restaurants for wait‑time info, upgrades its AI assistant with booking and personalization, and introduces a paid lead‑qualification bot for merchants.

Yelp has added a new feature called Check for Me that lets app users send a voice agent to phone a restaurant, ask for the current wait time, and receive the answer via text. The user only supplies party size and a callback number, and the AI handles the conversation end‑to‑end.
At the same time, Yelp’s conversational assistant gains an OpenTable integration for seamless reservations, memory of past preferences, custom reminder scheduling, and a list‑building toolkit with filtering, notes, and sharing. A refreshed lists tab and a map view are slated for later this year.
For business owners, Yelp is launching Smart Lead Reply, a $30‑per‑month service that automatically replies to inbound inquiries, qualifies leads, and follows a merchant‑defined script. This mirrors similar AI‑driven inbound‑handling products from other platforms.
Why it matters for GPU/AI infrastructure
Real‑time voice agents that place outbound calls and parse spoken responses demand ultra‑low‑latency inference and high‑throughput GPU capacity. As consumer‑grade assistants and merchant‑grade bots proliferate, cloud providers must scale elastic GPU clusters, optimize model serving pipelines, and guarantee reliability for millions of concurrent calls — a clear growth vector for AI‑focused GPU clouds.
