Uber Deploys ChatGPT Work Across Its Entire 30,000-Person Global Workforce

Ride-sharing giant Uber has taken a major step into enterprise AI adoption by deploying OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work platform across its entire global workforce of approximately 30,000 employees. The move follows a successful internal pilot earlier this year involving 1,000 staff members drawn from diverse departments such as finance, operations, and product development.

Why It Matters for AI Infrastructure

Uber’s decision underscores how large-scale enterprises are increasingly relying on cloud-hosted AI agents to streamline workflows and reduce dependency on traditional software tools. For GPU and AI infrastructure providers, such broad deployments signal rising demand for scalable compute resources capable of supporting thousands of concurrent users interacting with generative AI models in real time.

According to Sumanth Sukumar, Uber’s Vice President of Engineering, the majority of early adopters—about 80%—were non-engineers who leveraged the tool for tasks ranging from analyzing operational data to localizing content for international markets. This highlights the growing versatility of AI assistants beyond coding and into general business productivity.

The company did not disclose financial terms of the rollout but emphasized its focus on experimentation and iterative learning. Uber plans to evaluate employee usage patterns and workflow innovations to shape future AI integrations across the organization.

OpenAI, meanwhile, continues to gain traction in the competitive enterprise AI market, challenging rivals like Anthropic with tailored offerings designed for corporate environments.
