Spanish Startups Leverage Barcelona Supercomputing Center's AI Factory for Sovereign Compute
A new cohort of NVIDIA Inception members is using the BSC AI Factory Accelerator Programme to train proprietary models on MareNostrum 5, delivering breakthroughs in water management, cardiac diagnostics, and pharma sales intelligence.

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) has moved its AI Factory Accelerator Programme from pilot to full production, granting startups sovereign access to the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer — powered by NVIDIA accelerated computing. Participants also benefit from NVIDIA Inception resources such as Deep Learning Institute courses, mentorship, and venture‑capital introductions.
Three AI Champions showcase real‑world impact
Qatium deploys Neural Water Intelligence, a platform already serving over 250 utilities across 16 countries. Its proprietary models, trained on MareNostrum 5 using NVIDIA cuGraph, PhysicsNeMo, and Nemotron open models, enable daily operational decisions for water networks.
OneCareAI, a BSC spin‑off, applies NVIDIA NIM microservices to detect hidden atrial fibrillation in routine ECGs, giving clinicians an early‑warning tool for stroke risk.
Avatia builds a voice‑first, multi‑agent system for pharmaceutical sales, combining NIM microservices, Nemotron 3, and the NeMo Curator library to deliver curated drug information to physicians in real time.
Additional cohort members — Agrikola AI, Elna Health, Lokutor, Montevive AI, Oppy, Pack2Earth, and Up2Smart — span precision agriculture, medical imaging, speech services, enterprise security, sales intelligence, and sustainable packaging, illustrating the breadth of workloads that sovereign GPU infrastructure can unlock.
