Restate Secures $20M Series A to Scale Durable Execution for AI Agents
Berlin-based Restate raises $20M led by Singular to advance its lightweight durable execution engine, positioning it as a key infrastructure layer for long‑running AI agent workflows.

Restate, founded in 2022, built an execution engine that makes multi‑step workflows resilient to crashes and network interruptions. The surge in AI agents — long‑running, non‑deterministic processes — has turned that capability into a strategic necessity.
The company closed a $20 million Series A led by Singular, with participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures. The funding positions Restate to challenge Temporal, the current heavyweight in durable infrastructure, which recently raised $550 million at a $12.55 billion valuation.
Unlike many rivals, Restate developed its own storage, replication, and redundancy layers. This architecture delivers exceptionally fast, lightweight durability, attracting customers such as Replit and several Fortune 500 financial firms.
Why it matters for GPU / AI infrastructure
AI agents increasingly run on GPU clusters where node failures can waste expensive compute cycles. A durable execution layer automatically recovers interrupted workflows, preserving GPU utilization and reducing operational cost.
Restate plans to use the new capital to expand its go‑to‑market team, hire more engineers, and open a San Francisco Bay Area office. Co‑founder Stephen Ewan predicts durable execution will become as ubiquitous as databases across industries of all sizes.
