OpenAI Unveils Dots, a Bubbly Agentic Avatar Powered by GPT‑6 Astra
OpenAI introduced Dots, an always‑on personal agent built on GPT‑6 Astra that can pursue user goals autonomously across chat, code and collaboration tools.
At its recent Dev Day event, OpenAI announced Dots, a new agentic assistant that runs continuously in the background, working toward user‑defined objectives without needing constant supervision. Unlike Codex or ChatGPT, Dots are designed to operate independently of any specific hardware or interface, allowing users to give them a name and treat them as a persistent teammate.
Impact on GPU‑accelerated workloads
Because Dots can maintain long‑running processes—such as monitoring feedback loops, rerunning experiments, or executing code updates—they generate steady inference demand that benefits GPU‑based infrastructure. This persistent workload pattern can help data centers better utilize AI accelerators and plan capacity for always‑on agent services.
OpenAI plans to roll out Dots first to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users, with access via Slack, Teams and soon SMS. Specialist Dots can be equipped with custom identities, credentials and tools, and the company is already collaborating with Microsoft to align Dots with Agent 365 security controls.
