Meta's Updated Terms Enable Free AI Training on News Publisher Content
Meta's new commercial terms grant it the right to crawl websites linked to business accounts, letting the company use that data to train its AI models without paying publishers.

Starting October 30, Meta's revised commercial terms allow it to crawl any website that is "associated" with a business account using its platforms.
The language permits the use of automated scrapers to index, cache, analyze, and collect content from those domains for the purpose of developing, improving, researching, and training its AI products.
Implications for AI Training Infrastructure
By sidestepping individual licensing agreements, Meta could gain access to a far larger pool of text and multimedia than its current paid deals with outlets such as CNN, Fox News, and USA Today. This influx of training data will likely increase the demand for GPU‑accelerated compute, creating more workload for AI cloud providers that offer scalable training clusters.
