Meta Opens Up Muse Filesystem for Full Cloud VM Access
Meta’s Muse AI now lets users download a complete, sanitized snapshot of its underlying Linux filesystem, reinforcing its positioning as a configurable cloud computer.

From Restricted Tree to Full Archive
Initially, Muse would only reveal a textual directory tree when asked about its filesystem, refusing to bundle the contents into a downloadable archive. The system cited security reasons, even though the underlying virtual machine is meant to be a user‑controlled Linux environment in the cloud.
After a brief interaction, Muse began offering a clickable file browser that exposed the root directory. Today, the same request triggers Muse to create a ZIP file of the entire filesystem, with any sensitive information stripped out, and present it for immediate download.
Meta’s representatives describe this shift as the intended behavior of Muse, emphasizing that the secure VM truly belongs to the user. Users can install software, compile code, or browse the web inside the instance, treating it as a personal cloud computer rather than a black‑box chatbot.
Why it matters for GPU / AI infrastructure: Transparent access to the underlying filesystem simplifies debugging, custom tooling, and workflow integration for developers who rely on Muse‑hosted environments for model experimentation and inference pipelines.
