HackerRank Releases AI Interviewer Chakra to Evaluate Deeper Candidate Skills
HackerRank’s new AI agent Chakra conducts live interviews, observes coding workflows, and measures not just answers but thinking processes, AI fluency, and judgment.

HackerRank has made its AI interviewer Chakra generally available after a six‑month beta that saw over half a million practice interviews.
During a Chakra session a candidate receives a real‑world code repository and works in a shared canvas that includes an AI assistant. As they code, Chakra watches their actions and asks follow‑up questions about the chosen approach, alternative solutions, or how they would adapt to new constraints.
Why It Matters for GPU / AI Infrastructure
By probing the reasoning behind a solution and the candidate’s ability to steer AI output, the tool surfaces signals such as critical thinking, judgment, and AI fluency—skills that are essential for engineers who will design, tune, and deploy GPU‑accelerated AI workloads.
Early data shows that giving candidates access to the AI assistant reduces the temptation to use hidden external aids, with suspicious‑activity flags dropping 70‑80 % compared to traditional assessments, while also collapsing recruiter screens, take‑home tests, and technical interviews into a single session.
