Google is about to remove free access to Gemini Flash and Pro
Starting October 9, free Gemini users will be limited to Flash Lite, and the $4.99 AI Plus plan will lose Gemini Pro, pushing advanced features to higher‑tier paid subscriptions.

Effective October 9, 2026, Google will restrict free Gemini users to the Flash Lite model. The previously available Flash and Pro tiers will be removed from the free tier, forcing those users to upgrade to a paid plan for full functionality.
The $4.99 per‑month AI Plus subscription, which currently unlocks the standard Flash model, will also lose access to Gemini Pro after the same date. Google will notify existing subscribers by email and will discontinue Pro for this tier.
Advanced capabilities such as Gemini Pro and the “Deep Think” reasoning feature will be reserved for users on the higher‑priced AI Pro ($19.99 / month) or AI Ultra ($99.99 / month) plans. These tiers provide the compute resources needed for the more demanding models.
For GPU‑focused AI infrastructure providers, the shift underscores the importance of tiered pricing that aligns with hardware capacity. Customers seeking higher‑effort model runs must budget for upgraded subscriptions, which directly affect GPU utilization and cost planning in cloud environments.
