Two US Federal Agencies Hit by Month‑Long Data Breaches Exposing Millions of Records
In October 2026, the Pentagon and the FBI disclosed separate month‑long intrusions that exposed personnel records of millions, including Social Security numbers and job titles linked to sensitive investigations.

The Pentagon announced that a monthslong compromise of its Defense Manpower Data Center exposed records of 2.8 million current and former service members, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, race, sex and occupational specialty.
A separate intrusion attributed to the ransomware group ShinyHunters targeted FBI systems, allegedly stealing records of thousands of employees whose job titles involved China or Russia investigations.
Why it matters for GPU / AI infrastructure
Such breaches highlight the need for hardened environments when training AI models on sensitive data; GPU clouds must enforce strict access controls, encryption and audit trails to prevent exfiltration of valuable datasets.
