Epic Games Launches AI-Assisted Launcher Preview with Linux Support

Epic Games unveils a faster, Linux-compatible launcher built using AI-assisted 'vibe coding,' signaling a broader shift toward AI-accelerated development across its teams.

Epic Games Launcher preview interface showing Linux support

Epic Games has released a preview of its redesigned PC games launcher, emphasizing speed improvements and native Linux support. The company describes the development approach as "vibe coded," reflecting its growing reliance on AI-assisted coding agents to write and review large portions of the codebase.

According to Martin Keely, VP and GM of the Epic Games Store, AI tools were instrumental in replicating core launcher functionality and accelerating testing cycles. While the team supervised the entire process, the experiment demonstrates how AI can compress development timelines for complex desktop applications.

The move aligns with CEO Tim Sweeney's announced pivot toward "AI-accelerated development" across Epic, including Unreal Engine teams and an unannounced Disney project. The launcher preview runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, with Fortnite also slated for Linux via the new client.

Why it matters for GPU / AI infrastructure

Epic's public embrace of AI-assisted coding highlights a growing demand for scalable GPU compute to train and run the models that power developer tooling. As more studios adopt agent-driven workflows, the need for reliable, high-throughput GPU cloud capacity — like that offered by AiGpu — becomes a strategic priority for accelerating software delivery.
