Apple starts giving Siri AI access to third‑party apps

Apple’s iOS 27.3 update lets Siri AI perform actions across third‑party apps, using personal context and on‑screen awareness, and introduces an “app skills” feature for bundled tasks.

Apple expands Siri AI to third‑party applications

With the iOS 27.3 developer preview, Apple enables Siri AI to carry out actions inside any third‑party app, drawing on the user’s personal context, interpreting natural language, and using on‑screen awareness to fulfill requests without naming the app.

The new “app skills” capability lets developers combine multiple steps into a single voice command, for example allowing a user to say “Hey Siri, change my ride pickup address” while the ride‑share app’s Live Activity is displayed.

Apple also rolls out the same expanded Siri features to its native apps such as Calendar, Files, Maps and Mail, giving users abilities like locating previously visited locations or archiving dormant files, and provides a list of available actions per app.

Why this matters for GPU and AI infrastructure

Running Siri’s on‑device language models and vision tasks leverages the device’s neural engine and GPU acceleration, improving latency and privacy while off‑loading compute from the cloud; developers can therefore optimize their apps for efficient AI inference, a trend that benefits the broader GPU‑accelerated AI ecosystem.
